I have used these mortar rakes before on other areas of the patio without a problem, but on this occasion the cutters broke off after a short period of use. The same thing happened on the 4 cutter 8mm rake, so it is probably just a batch issue.

Repointing the rear of my son's house needed a slightly thinner cutter than I had purchased from Toolstation. Found these online. Cutters are significantly better than the ones available from Toolstation with regard to the speed of cut and finish. Used disc cutter to do initial damage and followed up with these to clean out joint. Delivery service was also 1st class

Performed ok in softish mortar but sheared raking in a harder mortar. Two have broken now. Irwin equivalent has performed better.

Paul we have noted your comments. We do not disagree as we state on the webpage this item is "suitable for soft to medium strength mortar removal but will struggle with hard mortars" With regards to the 6 mm, 3 cutter rake you are reviewing, we state on the webpage "Care must be taken when using the 6 mm rake. Due to the narrow width of this item, the cutting strips are supported on a very small steel core. If you apply excessive side pressure, you run the risk of breaking the item. With only moderate side pressure, the rake will cut effectively in soft to medium strength mortars." I was not aware Irwin produced a 6 mm rake, but if that is the case and you experienced trouble-free use with their 6 mm product, then we accept your criticism as being valid Thanks for the feedback. There's always room for improvement with products and reports like this are often timely reminders that some action is needed. Sean Kelly Company Owner
