“I ordered two of thes traps to address a developing rat problem in my chicken run. Let's be clear, it was my experience that these traps are NOT ready to use out of the box. When setting the traps, it soon became apparent that the treadles are poorly adjusted and sit flat with the bottom of the cage: there was no further room for movement and even if a bus ran over the trap, it wouldn't set it off! On live video, I actually watched rats running in and out of both traps (and stepping on the treadles and taking the bait) with impunity! Part of the problem is the treadle actuating rod is far too long. To compound things further is the quality of construction: even if your rat has the mass of a small hippo, the trap will never work unless you carry out some careful fettling wth a file to remove the significant burre (from sloppy manufacture) on the trap door release catch. Yes, these traps are cheap and with a bit of fettling you MAY(?) get them to work. However, not everyone has an engineering workshop to address a comprehensive snagging list. Come on Strangford Incubators - your galvanised chicken feeder I recently purchased was awsome but these (ungalvanised) rat traps are not worth the packaging they come in! Unless you are preparred to do some fettling, the old advice stands - buy cheap, pay twice!”
