This particular stair carpet is made using 100% sisal. Sisal is one of, if not the toughest natural fibers that exist in carpets. Sisal is very popular with interior designers for its sculptured basketweave-like texture.
The 'Morocco' range is manufactured using a 'flatweave' technique, which ensures that the rug will not fray over time. As a result, a finished or bound edge is not necessary for this particular rug.
Occasionally when this product is prepared and cut in the warehouse, there can be some excess threads of sisal left along the cut edge. (This is generally just what has been cut off).
I can safely assure you, that this is in no way fraying or pulling.

“The description of this runner says it is hard-wearing and not soft or luxurious, which is exactly right. As it was bought to prevent my cat from kneading it (I've gone through 2 all-wool runners while I've had her), the rug is fulfilling its purpose- I've noticed she won't even walk on this one! It looks nice down, once you get over the texture of it. One hint: don't walk on it in bare feet!”
