Earthborn Eggshell No.17 is a water based interior wood finish that is environmentally friendly and quick drying. With a silk finish, its durable, washable and scuff resistant.
“Eggshell No. 17 is quite some work to apply well. I can only get a good smooth finish if I strongly (1:4) dilute it, and then accordingly do at least five or six coats. Otherwise, it gives me brushmarks, or pools/puddles when I spray it. It's true it fully covers at two coats undiluted but the surface is not smooth then. The finish is tough and washable, but not hard/brittle enough to take sanding back well, even after letting it cure for days. Also, take the note on the can seriously that it doesn't like to adhere to previously applied solvent-based varnishes; it goes on alright but pulls off as a full sheet when dry. Such surfaces must be sanded for preparation.
A final note: when you store the paint for a long time (1y+) the golden-colored film that coats the tin on the inside flakes off and partially dissolves in the paint. If you apply from such a tin and spray more than an instantly-drying film this separatea out when drying and you get brownish-yellow staining bit like spilt tea on a tablecloth. Thinly-enough applied it's again fine ... but much more work.
I like the finish and the colormatch with Earthborn Claypaint, but dislike how "capricious" it is to apply.”
Thank you for your review. One handy tip we would recommend when applying Earthborn No. 17 Eggshell paint is to use a synthetic filament brush, this will reduce brush marks dramatically.
