“A pleasant drink, sharp and spicy (the chilli was much more prominent than I'd expected). But ultimately quite expensive for what is essentially a cordial.”
Hi Heather - thank you for taking the time to review. The vinegar tends to be stronger as an aroma than taste. So tips for reducing the aroma to get optimum balance:
- lots of ice in the glass
- fresh citrus garnish (eg slice of orange)
That helps to balance the vinegar aroma.
You could also look to use less, approx 15ml plus a mixer like tonic, ginger ale or alcohol-free sparkling wine. The Switchel will be more subtle but will help to bring extra bite and complexity to the mixers. And if that’s how you like it, your mother root will last twice as long!
We also have some great recipes on our website that you could also try, for a different way to drink Mother Root - https://www.motherroot.london/blogs/recipes
“Fantastic option for those who are reducing their alcohol intake. I've mixed it with different tonic waters though prefer it with San Pellegrino.
Would definitely recommend and will be purchasing again.”
“The whole family loved the flavour. You can make it as strong as you like or slightly weaker depending how much you like the taste of ginger. We love ginger ! We mixed some with soda water and some blood orange soda. Loved the both.”
“This drink does not agree with me, as soon as I've drunk it I have get an acidic sensation in my stomach. I've persevered with it but get this uncomfortable feeling each time I've drunk it. I wake with a headache in the morning, the same as I would after one glass of wine, which is why I've given up alcohol.”
Sorry to hear this Jacqui. I would suggest perhaps that you could also look to use less, approx 15ml plus a mixer like tonic, ginger ale or alcohol-free sparkling wine.
