This (my first wine brew) made my favourite Australian style commercial wines taste like Blackcurrant juice. Once I had spent around on a month making this without rushing, I tasted it before bottling and nearly tipped it because (I thought) it didn't taste right. I bottled it anyway in the hope that it would improve with time, and the last bottle was not quite full. Two days later I started to drink this just to see what was wrong with it, and it tasted like a good dry woody red wine (my tune changed instantly). This is the sort of proper (old world) red wine that you might get from France. Later in the week I opened bottle of my (now ex-favourite) commercial (New World) Shiraz and can honestly say that I didn't like it any more. Does anyone know if this commercial rubbish is pumped with grape juice before it is bottled? I am just wondering why it tastes so different!

Hi, I thought it about time to give my review on this wine kit. I began making home brew wine about four years ago but without much success. I bought the most expensive £70 per kit wine and wasn’t impressed. The Beaverdale Shiraz has become our staple wine. I have two car boys and another 30 bottles of the stuff under the stairs maturing. . I have also made a few Chardonnay kits of the same brand which are equally nice, and recently I have tried the white bergundy which We find even nicer. On the whole I would compare these wines to a £5 or £6 bottle of Harry’s etc from the leading supermarkets, but at a much more palatable price.

Make an excellent rich full bodied wine. I didn't bash it enough to get all of the CO2 out so its a little fizzy. Having to open it early and pour it from a height to knock that out, but not disappointed.
