Powerful skimmer for installation at the edge of the pond. He sucks pond surfaces up to 50 mÃÂ² free of foliage, pollen and other floating particles. The skimmer is flanged directly to the pond foil and can compensate for water level fluctuations up to 100 mm. The skimmer is operated with an optionally available Aquamax ECO, which can be stowed in the integrated pump chamber. Included in delivery is a cover in natural rock optics.

“The skimmer consisted of a number of plastic pieces (tank, strainer tray, door and various pipe adapters) and required some assembly before use. However, the assembly and use instructions consisted of a series of small line drawings and no words, which meant that assembly and installation were slow because of the lack of detail. There was little guidance on the correct pond water level for the skimmer to work efficiently (You Tube video recommends 3/4" below top of door aperture) , nor on fitting the pump. I bought the recommended Oase pump type to work with the skimmer, but found that it was too big to fit in the bottom of the skimmer tank. It was only after reading the pump instructions for running the pump in a dry installation (which the skimmer is not) that I realised that it was necessary to remove the outer filter shell of the pump to allow it to fit in the skimmer tank. Also, Oase recommends that the pipework from the pump should be 2" (50mm) to minimise pressure loss, but no 2" pipe adaptor is supplied with the skimmer. Finally, there is no mention of fitting an overflow pipe to the back of the skimmer tank to maintain the correct pond water level (again, You Tube video tip). I fitted an overflow pipe such that it started to bleed off water as soon as it rose above the 3/4" below the top of the door aperture and this has worked perfectly. The skimmer has been working now for about 2 months and it is very efficient in clearing the surface of the pond of leaves. However, I found it necessary to net the pond in the autumn to avoid the skimmer being overwhelmed with leaves. One final point concerns small fish: the first week or two that the skimmer was in use, I found that small fish had been sucked into the skimmer on several occasions, but had not come to any harm as the strainer tray prevented the fish from being ingested into the pump. After a couple of weeks the fish seemed to have learned that swimming near the skimmer entrance was not a good idea! In summary, I consider that the skimmer is efficient, but expensive considering that it it simply made up of plastic mouldings, and I would recommend watching some You Tube videos prior to installation, as the instructions supplied are very poor.”

“Love the Oase byosis skimmer. It’s now installed and works perfectly, well worth the money. My only complaint is that it takes lincs aquatics 3-4 working days to ship which was not specified when I ordered. I needed it sending sooner and it held up my build. If you’re not in a rush for parts then I recommend lincs. 100% recommend the skimmer.”
