Chateau Puech-Haut Argali Rosé, IGP Pays d'Oc, Languedoc, France, 2021
Grapes: A blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Cinsault from vineyards north-east of Montpellier around Saint-Drezery and Pic Saint Loup.
Soil: "Galets roulés" pebbles over a clay/limestone base.
Founded by Gérard Bru, in just a few years, Château Puech-Haut has become one of Languedoc`s most prominent producers. The top, estate vineyards are worked biodynamically and their most well known reds, such as the La Closerie du Pic, are highly sought after and very highly rated by numerous wine critics.
This wine has red fruit aromas of strawberry and raspberry with some fresh, white peach. A silky texture, crisp acidity and red berry fruit flavours alongside stone-fruits (peach & nectarine) and a tangy grapefruit twist.
"A Provence-esque rosé from the nearby Languedoc, this is made from 60% Grenache and 40% Cinsault. Perhaps the most striking aspect, however, is its elegant, frosted glass bottle. Its delicate and yet flavourful, raspberry and cherry lips fruit aromas lead on to a palate that balances a bit of red berry depth with peachy lusciousness, and then a lemon rind suggestion of firm waxiness to the acidity."
90/100 points, Tom Cannavan, January 2022
