Carignan Gran Reserva Alto Los Romeros, Valle de Colchagua, Chile, 2016
100% Carignan with 12 months in French oak.
A full bodied dry red wine. Intense deep violet colour, on nose is fresh and aromatic with notes of black and red fruit such as blueberries, wild blackberry and violet flowers. Its origin and acidity without equal, make this an elegant wine, with a medium body, round tannins and a long and persistent finish.  Aged 8 to 14 months in barrels of French origin to harmonize their aromas and achieve a unique balance.
A great match with roasted meats and cheese. Why not try with some aged Gouda Parmesan, or even fresh Yoghurt!

2016 in Argentina was an El Nino vintage (ie cold, rainy and cloudy) and Luis Phillipe Edward’s 2016 Carignan is typical of the vintage. Dark garnet in colour, with lovely deep dark berry flavours and a bouquet to match. However, along with all this goes an acidity that is still quite prominent. The acidity had softened slightly by the next evening, suggesting that a few more years in bottle would be beneficial. But this will never have the plump softness of a warm summer vintage.
