Brouilly Château De La Pierre, Brouilly, Beaujolais Cru, Burgundy, France, 2022
Grape: 100% Gamay, hand harvested, partially destemmed bunches, unoaked. Vineyards on weathered granite soils on the slopes of Mont Brouilly.
Displaying a ruby red colour with purple hues, this Brouilly is full of charm. The nose shows floral lilac then intense cassis, blackberry and ripe cherries together with hints of liquorice, cloves and mineral notes. Well balanced and round, the mouth is silky with a refreshing acidity. Similar notes of dark fruits show on the full-bodied palate. A rich and plummy finish with ripe tannins.
Great with roast pork, veal stew, brie, cherry clafoutis (an oven baked cherry pancake).
Built during the 12th century, the Château de la Pierre was one of the main fortified sites ensuring the protection of Beaujeu Sirs. Property of Jean Loron, it covers 15 hectares of vines that are 50 years old.
