Beaujolais Nouveau, Jean Loron, France, 2022
Grape variety, 100% Gamay unwooded.
Situated between the Rock of Solutré in Mâconnais and Moulin-à-Vent in Beaujolais, the Maison Jean Loron is one of the oldest and largest vineyard owners in the south of Burgundy. Its wine-growing history dates back to 1711.
From our award winning supplier Jean Loron who, for the past few vintages, has been awarded the top prize in the Beaujolais Nouveau competition organised in Beaujolais each year. The one wine we sell every year before tasting.
Beaujolais Nouveau owes its easy drink-ability to a wine-making process called carbonic maceration, also called whole berry fermentation. This technique preserves the fresh, fruity quality of the wine, without extracting bitter tannins from the grape skins.
2022 vintage report:
"The harvest began on Monday 22 August and is now coming to an end. What beautiful raw material this year, there is nothing to throw away! This year, our vines experienced drought with a very dry July, the driest since 1964. The weather conditions, with heat again during harvest, had perfectly completed the ripening process and allowed us to foresee a great 2022 vintage. The work of winemaking remains, to taste the juices and discover this long-awaited vintage!"
Nibble on some French Comté cheese whilst drinking your bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau!
