Read Force 4 Chandlery Reviews

This is a handy cordless, butane powered, hotknife rope cutter. Being gas powered makes it a great addition to a tool box on board.  It will cut most nylon, polypropolene and polyester ropes, also sealing them helping to prevent them fraying and unravelling on you. Features Piezo ignition Fully adjustable Refillable Size: L190 x 25mm Dia (with cap) Operating Time: upto 30 mins Approx Temperature: Upto 450degC Please Note: Gas ligher fuel not included. Replacement hot knife blades are available for this product, see p/no SP11203

Arrived yesterday. followed instructions, filled with butane supplied, but would not work after repeated attempts. Not sure ignition is operating. Dispapointed.

A usefull and cheap alternative to the proper 'hot knife' electric cutters. Being run on gas gives this neat tool a bit of an advantage over the electric ones in that it can be used almost anywhere, without the need for a 240v power suppy. On the downside, it has a comparatively small cutting tip and takes a while to heat up. However, once hot, it will cut through nylon ropes and webbing fairly well - as long as you take your time and excercise a bit of patience. I have used it so far on rope and elastic bungy cord and it sealed the ends of both. Having a wide tip, makes it ideal for tidying any frayed ends and molding them into the required shape. One danger to be aware of is that it is not just the tip that gets hot. The whole front end of the tool has the potential to burn, especially the ring of vents near the tip holder. Despite my best efforts, I managed to melt quite a few holes in the plastic chopping board that I used to protect the boat table top. I will be using this great little weapon again but will upgrade to a wooden board, or maybe invest in a plumbers soldering mat.

Both this and the lighter gas refill were gifts for my son. He had suggested them and was very pleased with them.

Works as expected. Only criticism is that the transparent cap provided is too short to cover the tip when the blade is in place, so there is no way of keeping it all together.
