For everyday, emergency or liferaft use, the Echomax EM12 is a popular corner 12inch (30cm) ball radar reflector. The RORC recommend a mounting height of 4 metres above sea level or as high as possible on small craft. Mounted in the catch rain position (recommended), with the open corners facing the horizon and at a mounted height of 10-35 feet, it will give an approximate radar response between 4-7 nautical miles.
