“Really not happy with the changes compared to the previous model. I bought 4 pairs of the previous generation, and they all fitted like a glove straight of the box. The perfect fit. Bought a pair of the Evo 6 months ago and they were cripplingly uncomfortable. They basically felt a size too small. Worse, it took so long to break them in - probably 100 to 150 hours of hard (and actually painful) walking - for them to become comfortable that the heel and insole were by then visibly worn. I don’t care what Lowa say with their marketing speak and technobabble about the changes; as I say, the reality is the previous 4 pairs were all consistently a perfect fit; these are not. Why do companies insist on messing with a classic recipe? My pair are now worn out and I now have a once inconceivable doubt about whether to try another pair (a size bigger) or try a different brand.”
“I have had numerous pairs of Renegade GTX Lo over the years, I wear them all day and they were perfect for me. There was no need to look anywhere else. Really disappointed to see in the Evo that the hooks have been removed - this made it really easy to take them on and off quickly. The construction of the sole is also different, and it feels like it has been redesigned to reduce costs. Time will tell, but next time I don't think I automatically replace these without also looking elsewhere.”
“I've bought 8 pairs of the Renegade Evo GTX Lo over the years. The reason being it's wide fitting and how comfortable they are straight out of the box. I bought two pairs last time so imaging my horror when I went to my normal shop to find out the one's I normally wear are no longer available.
A quick look on the internet and the only place that sell the original Renegade Evo GTX Lo is in the USA. I know that designers like to change the style of things but when I read so many 5 star reviews about these shoes years ago that's what made me buy them.
Due to arthritis the outside of the heals wear away quickly so I have to replace the heals every 6-8 weeks, I wear my shoes for everything.
The new Renegade Evo GTX Lo soles and heals are one piece, not sure these could be replaced and the cost is high.
Oh well you've just lost a customer, wonder if others feel the same way?”
Hi Dave,
Thanks for getting in touch. The Renegade shoe did receive an update last year, and the latest version is the Renegade Evo GTX Lo, and it comes in a wide fit option alongside the standard fit. There were a number of updates made, including a more hard wearing rubber outsole, a more cushioned midsole, and some changes to the stitch lines in the upper as well. They are made in the same way as all previous generations of Renegade, using a direct injection method where the PU midsole is injected in as a liquid, and then solidifies around leather upper and rubber outsole to create a bond there. This creates a comfortable, well cushioned shoe, but does mean it's not possible to carry out a full re-sole. It can be possible to partially replace the heel area of the sole though, and nothing has changed in that regard with the new version.
Hopefully that helps to clarify a few things, but if there are any further questions do reach out to the team on hello@lowa.co.uk and they would be more than happy to help.
