Hi Susan Sorry to hear this. This product is only ph 5 (nearly neutral) so it won't cause burns. It's more likely you may have been sensitive to one of the materials - which is why we recommend a patch test. If you drop us a line at help@facetheory.com we'll get you a refund. Jamie
