Hi Kate, We are so sorry to hear that you had a reaction. There are many elements that can increase sensitivity or cause irritation. For example, it may be a specific ingredient in the formula to which you are allergic, or an active ingredient that is simply too potent for your skin. Sometimes it's other products used at the same time or even external/environmental factors. This product does not contain any ingredients that will darken the skin. “Really happy with this product. At first I thought I had a reaction to it, feeling itchy. Also the smell wasn’t very pleasant, but I noticed it doesn’t linger when applied. Now half way through the jar. It lasts long.”
