Thanks for your comments. I have checked our stock and can see that some of the top pockets can be a little stiff to open, however they have been cut so you shouldn't need to cut them again to open them. I'd recommend putting the refill between your thumb and forefinger and gently "rubbing" or "pushing" the top of the refill to separate it.
