“Hi all .. Myself and my wife , purchased a Wowcher Voucher, for a weekend (2 x Night stay , Friday 13th & Saturday 14th June , at the Beautiful Great National Hotel , in Ballina Co Mayo . We arrive Red 2pm on Friday, and we're pleasantly surprised that our room was sitting ready for us on our early arrival . I'm am being totally honest when I say , that both myself and my wife , had one of the most enjoyable stays ever , in the 40 years we have been traveling around Ireland , for the first moment we put our foot through the Door , into the Reception Area , we were most welcomed by a great team of staff , from the most senior staff , right down to the Hotel cleaners !! Absolutely amazing experience, one of the best ever . Thank you all , Shelley & Rachel on reception , Corey and Stephen on the bar and floor , and also the 2x lady cleaners , who always had a lovely smile , and looked after our room when we were out and about .. Big thank you to both . Now the Hotel itself , Wowww it is beautiful , there is lovely lounges through-out the Hotel , so comfortable are the seats , we didn't want to move off them lol . This Hotel , I'd have to give a " Nine and a half / out of Ten .. honestly . Bed-Rooms are really spacious, beds so big and comfortable, TV with all the smart tv features like Netflix , Youtube and all the other smart apps . Also Tea and coffee amenities in all the bedrooms , including little biscuits and snacks , all fresh cold filtered bottled water ! The entertainment on Saturday night from around 9.30pm to before 12 midnight was really good . The Gym and Swiming pool facilities also (9 out of 10) Steamroom and Sauna spotless and really clean . Must mention the swimming pool is Heated , really enjoyed all the facilities.. We booked our dinner for 7pm Saturday evening , once again it was lovely , I honestly cannot say a bad thing about our weekend stay here , one we will not forget . Will most definitely be back again sometime .. thank you for everything . Lastly the Hotel is based just a 5 min drive from Ballina City centre , or a 20 minute walk , which is on level ground the whole way , No hills lol . Ballina is beautiful , great for the lady shoppers , Penny's, Dunnes stores and lots more . Also the World famous River Moy , with its Salmon leaps , and its well renound ' Ridge-Pool ' which Jackie Charlton fished many a day , when he moved to live in this part of the world ! It's not hard to see why he moved here to live , the people in this part of North Mayo are lovely and friendly , really warm homely type of folk. As for places to see , and things to do , the list is countless , Downpatrick Head is a must ! It's cliffs and veiws are breathtaking , free car parking , then a 10 min walk to its veiwing points . Absolutely amazing , also other places to go and see are Killala Bay , Ballycastle , Inishmore and beautiful Crossmilina .. stunning views of the Wild Atlantic, also Neolithic Fields of five . Artifacts that are over 10,000 years old , preserved by the Peat and Turf bogs . Also a must see is small number of Famine cottages , close to Crossmilina .. looking at the ruins , give me a strong sense of times gone by , those that imagrated all around the globe , during the times of hardship . An experience I myself will never forget . But lastly the beauty around North Mayo , you would have to see for yourself .. hope this helps anyone who is thinking of visiting this part of Ireland.. hopefully my photos load up , I'm not great with technology , but I'll try post up our photos ..
