“If you read Tripadvisor recent reviews (Dec 2025) you will be quietly panicking about your stay, however, I would like to say that I have nothing but positive things to say about our recent stay. We (2 adults and 2 kids) were very early for the 4pm check in but we had done that on purpose so we could see everything around us before it got dark. Gary was at the check in desk and he told us that we could go into the bar and he would let us know when our lodge was ready. We went into the bar and sat in front of the log fire which was lovely. Josh at the bar told us there were games in the lounge room that the kids could play with and they chose dominoes and brought them into the bar to play. We met two other people who worked there and they were lovely too and made conversation with us and the kids. I took the girls out for a little walk on the grounds and we went down to the little dock. The views were amazing. Our lodge was ready and so we went to check in properly and met a couple who had travelled up from England for the 16th year in a row. Gary told us that the hot tub in our lodge had a small electrical fault and as a result we couldn’t use it but they were bringing a part the next day. He offered us complimentary pizzas for the trouble and the kids were more excited about that than seeing the lodge, for a minute. He told us about the water not being drinkable as it was a private water source and there were notices in the lodge about possible bacterial issues with it. They gave us 2 litre bottles of water and the offer of more if needed. We had read the reviews and saw the water issue and had brought our own water BUT the water was given to us in sealed brand new bottles not reuseable ones as one review I saw stated. We drove up to the lodge and were surprised to see it was semi detached I hadn’t seen anything to say they weren’t stand alone lodges it was fine it was just a surprise. The kids were wowed (as we were ) when we walked into the lodge. It was clean and warm and very well stocked with towels etc. The sauna was a huge bonus for the kids and I. The views were stunning and had it not been so frosty we would have made very good use of the lovely balcony areas, both up and downstairs. I can imagine these would be amazing in summer and autumn time. The kitchen was a delight. Spotlessly clean and with plenty of utensils for what you would need to cook a meal. My husband phoned and ordered our complimentary pizzas and they were brought up to us. Which was so lovely. We went out to the Tall Trees trail the next day and when we returned no one had been to fit the part to make the hot tub useable but for us we didn’t mind that at all as my husband hadn’t planned on using it and one of the little ones was too young to use it. My only grumble is that on the first night for some reason the water pump kept going off even though no one in the lodge was flushing the toilet or running the water. 1am, 3am and 4am. As a result I had very little sleep but it didn’t wake anyone else so that was fine. The next night it didn’t do it. So I don’t know what was going on that first night but the second night I had a great sleep like the rest of them. I love that you don’t need to check out until 12 but we had two little people desperate to get out and about so we checked out earlier. As I walked in with the key card the place was bustling with people there for the New Years Eve celebrations. I can’t see how anyone could say anything bad about the lodge that we stayed in Eilean Donan (I think I’ve spelled that correctly) but I don’t know about the other lodges but from the people I saw enjoying their balconies on our drives up and down (obviously more hardcore than us) they looked to be enjoying their stay.”
