“So, as I said above, Gardena's reputation was a major factor in chosing this product over others though Karcher would have probably won if their reel could have held more than 15 metres of hose. The reel arrives boxed in bits which have to be assembled. The only tool required is a philips screwdriver for two screws that hold the retaining collar. 2 minute job. Fixing to the wall is a bit more taxing, especially if you want it level and expecially if you put it on a rendered / pebble dashed wall. I had to chisel off some render to get a decent flat surface as the back-plate is not a solid flat construction. The fixing plate is galvanised and sturdy and held by three screws which may well rust and leave rust run marks down the wall given time but nobody uses brass screws nowadays. The reel then just slots into the triangular shaped V bracket and this is where there is a possible weak spot because there is only a small fin of plastic on each side of the bracket actually holding the reel in the bracket. 60 metres of hose does fit but fills the reel completely and means there is a fair weight of hose plus water hanging on those two small fins of plastic. While the bracket to wall fixing is solid, the weight of hose pulls the upper part of the reel away from the wall - see photo. Time will tell whether its good enough ! UV aging may prove a killer. The only other negative I can see is that the connector from the tap supply is tucked away behind the reel and in a fairly tight space between the reel and the wall, which does not make for easy disconnection if you want to use the tap / short hose for a different purpose - again, see photo.”

“Ordered the Gardena wall mounted hose reel and guide. It arrived promptly and was fairly easy to assemble. I was glad of the extra long stainless screws provided to support the wall bracket as there is quite some weight with the hose full of water. 4 starts since the reel is advertised as taking 60m but my 50m 1/2 inch hose fills up the reel to the brim so I think it’s a bit misleading.”

“Initial impression, after just a quick trial after installation, is that the hosereel seems quite well designed and made (which it should be for the price). However, it's a shame when the overall impression of a product is damaged by insufficient attention to peripheral details: I would have given a better review if it were not for the following:- 1) More verbal description would be helpful in the assembly instructions. They are mainly diagrammatic and make perfect sense once you have already figured out how to assemble the reel. 2) Wall fixing screws and plugs are supplied but the screws were too long. You could just about use them for the separate hose guide bracket, but for each of the three fixings for the hosereel bracket itself you would have to drill the wall 20mm deeper than the length of the wall plug purely to accommodate the length of screw.”
