“I am in the final stages of building this model - namely the rigging and sails. This kit has its difficulties but let's face it, if it was really easy it would be lacking in detail and boring to make, Some tips....
Pre paint whatever you can. Check and clear some of the holes in the rigging components . When doing the rigging you will do better if you lossley glue the plastic sails to the yards before they go onto the ship. Then do the stitching (blanket stitch), fit the various blocks and long rigging lines before fitting the yards to the masts. Leave only the fitting of the rigging lines to the decks or belay pins along the deck sides. I also used sheering elastic for some of the rigging it stretches easily without imposing much tension on the masts and bowsprit etc. Be careful of the plastic sails and keep all your offcuts because you can use them to patch up the sail breakages. In fact do as much pre rigging as you can. Trying to tie off rigging lines to the deckside belay pins is next to impossible! Get yourself organised with various GOOD quality tweezers and scissors that will cut sharp right up to their points. Finally, have a supply of extra-long matchsticks to act as permanent splints if you should accidentally break a mast, a yard, or the bowsprit. If you need replacement parts, Revel will generally supply these for free if you write to them, though it takes about 10 days to get them. All in all a really superb model and when done I will probably make the Revell "Constitution" 1/96 kit.”
