Design & Control
High-quality finish and easy operation encourage creativity. Weighing approximately 340g*5, the FUJIFILM X70 is the lightest X-series camera with an APS-C sized sensor. The top-plate features milled aluminium exposure compensation and shutter speed dials, making it easy to quickly access key features, while the aperture and focusing rings are also made from milled aluminium to help keep weight down. Apertures can be changed in 1/3 or 1 stop increments, plus the focusing ring doubles up as a control ring for quick access to a range of functions.

Image Quality
Compact body with an APS-C sized X-Trans CMOS II sensor and EXR Processor II image processing engine. Key technologies that deliver the high quality images unique to X-series models have been compressed into a pocket-sized body. This includes the stunning color reproduction technology, developed as a result of more than 80 years of photographic film manufacturing, and the unique Lens Modulation Optimizer (LMO) image processing technology that corrects optical defects such as diffraction*6 to achieve edge-to-edge sharpness and a realistic three-dimensional effect. On-sensor phase detection AF focuses in an ultra-fast 0.1 sec and, thanks to the high-speed EXR Processor II image processor, the camera starts up in just 0.5sec*7, has a shutter time lag of 0.01sec and shooting interval of 0.5sec*8.

Autofocus
AF system with Zone and Wide/Tracking modes for effortless capture of moving subjects. The AF system offers the standard 49-point Single Point mode for high speed and precision focusing, as well as the new Zone and Wide/Tracking modes that use a larger 77-point area to capture moving subjects

Digital Teleconverter
Digital Tele-converter with three settings. One body, three lenses. The X70's fixed lens offers a 28mm*9 angle of view but, thanks to the first Digital Tele-converter mode in an X-series camera, users can also select 35mm*9 and 50mm*9 options. Settings for the Digital Tele-converter can be changed within the menu, or on the control ring on the lens barrel, enabling users to quickly check the image on the LCD before shooting..

The X70 is already out of production after only about a year but I understand that this is due to Sony withdrawing manufacture of the APS-C sensor. So you will need to snap one up quickly if you want one whilst there are still a few around. The camera is smaller than the X100 (s, t, f) but larger than the X10/20/30 and does not have the latter's zoom lens. But if you want a highly portable camera with a fixed focal length lens (28mm in 35mm terms) that is half the price of the X100 family, this could fit the bill. Image quality is up to Fuji's usual high standard. I also own the XPro-1 and X20 and as you would expect from a camera sporting an APS-C size sensor, image quality is more akin to the XPro-1, which we know is equal to and better than some DSLRs. If you like the retro styling and dials instead of menus for your main settings, you'll love this camera. You have the added benefit of touch screen control if you want it. The screen also tilts up and down for overhead, low down and selfie shots. There are plenty of online reviews with technical details so I won't repeat them here. There are downsides too and for me these are: The small size of the camera and the layout of the controls mean it's not the best ergonomically. It is easy to accidentally hit the "Q" button whilst trying to get a hold for your right thumb. Battery charging is in camera unless you splash out for a separate charger but to be fair battery life is excellent and as long as you charge before you go out, you should have enough power for a good day's shooting. It's a personal thing, but I am disappointed to learn it is made in China. Even my X20, which was over £100 cheaper, is made in Japan. It just gives me that extra confidence that I have bought a well made, quality product. I don't have that same feeling with Chinese goods. Having said that, the camera is reassuringly heavy for its size and appears to be made to Fuji's high standards. Time will tell!
