Lightweight, comfortable to hold, easy to adjust, nice bright view. Not used many times yet but compared with others in this price range (and higher) they seemed too good not to buy.

After a lot of research and a budget in mind I wanted a quality pair of binoculars without breaking the bank. It was clear from reading published reviews that the 8 x 42 was the most suitable for beginners and the Nikons were highly rated. I have very little experience with other makes but what I can say is the Nikon Monarch 5's are perfect for my needs, they aren't too heavy and feel really well made. The optics are very clear and really good in low light situations, adjustment is very precise and they can be used with spectacles which was a big plus when considering my purchase. I have only owned them for 2 weeks but they have been used extensively and I am really pleased with my choice. The Monarch 7's also have good reviews however I couldn't justify an extra £130. I also researched prices on the internet and found the best price at Wilkinsons, delivery was free and very quick.

Unfortunately, I haven't looked at the product throughly, only to check it was the correct item, as it is a Christmas present for my husband!
