There are a couple of options open to you when you buy your panel light. The first is what sort of colour temperature you would like – warm white (3000K) or cool white (6000K). Colour temperature is simply a measure of the perceived warmth of a light. Warm white is quite close to the shade that a conventional halogen would give off, and is perfect for the living room or bedroom thanks to its cosy feeling. Cool white however is a lot brighter and icier looking. This makes it better suited for areas that require you to concentrate, such as the office or kitchen. The second option is whether you want dimmable light or not. This gives you additional freedoms when using your lights but will require a trailing edge dimmer for use.
