Fit For All Weather The decking lights come equipped with IP67 protection, and as mentioned above, the low voltage transformer is IP44 rated. IP ratings (Ingress Protection) can seem like a different language at first, but they are actually quite easy to understand. It is simply a measurement of a device’s level of protection against moisture and foreign bodies, and is comprised of 2 parts – the 2 digits that make up the numbered segment of the rating. So let’s look at our LED decking lights which have an IP67 rating. The 6 means that the lights are completely dust tight, and that the lights cannot be penetrated by any foreign bodies. The second digit – the 5 – means that it can withstand low pressure jets of water from any direction. In the real world this means that the lights are splash proof and won’t malfunction due to heavy rain, washing or any other splashes of water. The transformer is IP44 rated, meaning that it is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm, and against water splashes from any direction. For you, this means that both the decking lights and the transformer are suitable for use outdoor and in areas where water splashes may be frequent – the kitchen or bathroom for example. Of course the advantage of using LED decking lights outdoors as opposed to incandescent or fluorescent lighting is that there is no risk of accidentally stepping on a very hot light – LEDs operate at very cool temperatures – meaning you can relax if you have small children or pets in your household.
