I've had mine for around five years now and I love it. It is fun to play and very portable compared to my 4/4 horn. I bought it to take on vacations so I could practice while on the road. It did break once, the brace holding the paddles came unsoldered but Wessex handled the warranty repair very promptly. Now for the reasons for the 4 stars. As to be expected, it is quite stuffy. It can't be helped since the bore is so small, it is just physics. As a corollary, because of the small bore, It fills up with water very quickly. I find myself emptying it often, sometimes mid-piece. Even though it has 2 water keys it is easier to pull the slide and dump it. Also, there are many water traps. The 1st valve slide in particular fills quickly. To re-iterate, I love the horn and despite the little inconveniences.

I play in a few community concert bands in my area and a fellow tuba player bought a Schiller C mini tuba and has been enjoying that. I am a B flat guy and I found about the Wessex 160 Tornister mini tuba. I have been enjoying it for about a month now. While it will not replace the sound put out by my 5/4 Meinl, it is way more than an amusing novelty. I have had a lot of fun with it already and it is a great practice horn. Much easier to simply sit around and play instead of getting out the monster horn. I had read a few reviews about issues with certain notes or octaves and I have had none of those issues. I think this horn would be fine in a small ensemble like a brass quintet. I am really happy with it and the fit and finish is outstanding. There may come a day I purchase another Wessex tuba like the 6/4 piston valve version.

WOW..... This an awesome mighty midget!. Don't understand what the complaint is about the middle "C" It's not that bad at all!. Such a big sound for a small BBb tuba. All I can say is Wessex...you nailed it! 5 stars in my opinion! Great job guys! Ron Corbin Principal Tubist for the Lake Charles Community Band. LC, La.

The tuba didn't have the sound I needed even though it was mostly considered to be an alternate travel tuba. It was difficult to play some notes in proper pitch and some sounded stuffy. Your company honored the return policy when I told them I did not want to keep it.

I am sorry to hear the travel tuba did not work out for you. I agree it is more difficult to play than full size tuba, but that does make it good for practice purposes. I am pleased to hear the return policy worked well. Jonathan Hodgetts, President of Wessex Tubas
