“Bought a Midnight Navy size S after a very long search through both more and less expensive alternatives. Turned out to be an excellent choice for me, as I have revamped my entire wardrobe along minimalist lines, and the Eldon boasts a pleasingly unfussy profile.
Pros
- Midweight winter jacket of boiled wool, which provides great wind resistance and moderate shower resistance
- Collar works down or up, to cover and insulate neck
- Two-way zip enables easier access to trouser or under-layer pockets
- Jacket itself has two good-size waist pockets to guard gewgaws or warm hands
- Also one inner breast pocket on the left for phone, valuables etc (Bizarrely, this is not mentioned on the website, and I had to have several stabs with AI to discover whether it was a feature, which would otherwise have been a dealbreaker for me. Come on Wax, get your copywriting act together!)
- Length and volume easily accommodate underlayers or a chunky sweater for icier weather
- Minimal cut in rich colour can be styled up or down as needed.
Cons
- Two-way zip is fiddly to engage, and could run more smoothly once engaged (a common problem with such zips on other jackets I have)
- Not proof against persistent or prolonged rain. Rough surface of boiled wool turns from water-repellent to absorbent after a while, and then takes a long time to dry out
- None of the pockets are sealable, making them less secure or theftproof.”
