I think the guys working there are doing an amazing job in Yana Cocha, the environment for the volunteers is very enjoyable and friendly, the place is stunning and work there is absolutely lovely. Raphael, Rafael the Vet, Raul and Marc are really nice person, hard workers and very careful with all the animals and volunteers, and it makes the volunteers’ experience even greater. The only thing that it should be absolutely improved, but I don’t know if directly dependent on them, is the condition of the shower and toilets. Talking also with other volunteers I think that anyone can work cover in mud, insect in a full day of rain. However at the end of the day is fundamental for the people to find at a warm shower where the light is working, considering not all days are warm in the forest and sometimes people finish the round when is dark. Likewise lights in all the three toilets is important, in case of multiple people “emergency” during the night. Moreover, considering volunteers work also on Sunday morning, I think the breakfast should be offered Sunday as well. Despite this last thing, my experience has been very nice and enjoyable.

To give a summary the last five weeks have been the most amazing five weeks of my life. When arriving to the center you are warmly welcomed and shown around. It is a lot to take in because the center is pretty big and there are a lot of animals. Working hours are from 8 till 12 and half past 2 till 5 which is a good amount. Everyday the animals need to be feed and there cages to be cleaned and when that is done we work on extra work which is really diverse. I have loved every day of my stay here and that is partly because of the animals and of the amazing people of yana cocha.

The pre departure booklet was a good preparation for the trip! Staff always respond to my questions and concerns. I liked my project very much. Volunteering in Quito with children was an unforgettable experience! Totally worth it! The accommodation was good meals in the project very tasty unfortunately I didn’t have any meals in the house. The work with the kids was great as well as the weekend trips with my house-mates. Trekking up Cotopaxi an active volcano was the most exciting experience.I enjoyed the zip lining for 100 meters in an amazing view it was real fun and also when we were at 5005 meters above sea level!

I found Pre-departure booklet very helpful and when the Ecuador projects were not on the website I had direct contact which was useful. Also the staff was very quick and supportive. It was good although with carnival I missed 2 days and nobody spoke English which was difficult as I only had basic but it was my own fault I thought it would be like Nepal where teacher spoke English. I think not speaking Spanish was a problem so without the help of the other volunteers I would have felt useless. I stayed in volunteer house and cooked own meals. house companions were great. Food at project was very tasty. I enjoyed our day trip to the swimming pool with the kids and putting a smile on their faces everyday. I liked meeting the other people and seeing the background of a subject I had no experience. Have a basic in conversational Spanish. The basics really don't get you far. The organisation has some great people working for you and I did really enjoy the experience and Ecuador is an amazing country.

I liked my program placement very much. I had a great time there and I was Sorry that I had to leave. The experience of doing volunteering work at the Galapagos was great and from the first moment I came at the center I was part of it. The contact with my colleague and the children and their parents is something I will never forget. The accommodation was fine. I had a room for myself with my own bathroom on a good location 10 minutes walking from the work. The meals were okay but not super. But when you are in another country you need to adapt! The contacts I had at work the beautiful island and the opportunity to speak Spanish all the time were the highlights from the trip. I will surely recommend this program option to anyone.
