I am using 1/4 to 1/3 of the niger seed that I used to - the tray is useful to prevent waste and allows more birds to feed at once. Constantly have goldfinch and siskins arguing over ownership of the feeder!

very quick delivery. The feeder looks fine. I hope the gold finches do as well.

I ordered this niger feeder as a replacement for a different type which easily gets clogged when driving rain gets into it. This one is much better in that respect. Although the lowest seed outlets can clog if the seed gets damp, the higher outlets stay free. Another benefit is the tray, which means birds will stay longer on the feeder to eat the seed they've extracted - a good thing if you enjoy watching them. My problem with it is that all feeders should be taken apart and cleaned thoroughly from time to time to prevent avian diseases, but this one doesn't seem to be designed for that. There were no instructions for taking it apart and I've failed to discover a way to do it. Dirt builds up inside the base of the transparent cylinder and washing it out with water doesn't shift all of it. A poor design in my view.

Does the job. Quite thin plastic, but an effective feeder for the niger seeds.

Fine, but these very picky birds have now decided they prefer sunflower hearts instead. You just can't win. The product is one of the best I've come across however.

This is a great hit with the goldfinches, they took to this like proverbials. They had bhad a small yellow feeder, but the bottom fell out. They seem to like the ability to sit in this and munch on the seed in the tray. Why bother to perch when you can sit with seed up to your ...
