I owned a MKI Action Shirt for years, using it as a base layer for un-armoured leathers and absolutely adored it; after losing it to theft, I was hopeful this would be at least an equal replacement. I'll begin by saying this is absolutely a top-quality piece of gear that I trust, and Knox still make an outstanding product. However, I found the fit of the previous version to be much more form-fitting (despite the bulkier armour), and ultimately more useful as a base layer. Having only owned the MKII during one season of weather - it's still early to say, but thus far it doesn't seem to breathe as well as the previous version. The newer, more low-profile elbow armour also has a greater tendency to shift out of place compared to the old model. It's a fine, comfortable piece of kit, but I can tell I'm much less likely to wear this MKII when I go out for a ride. As someone working as a maker in the outdoor industry, I understand that product changes have to occur, and there will frequently be tradeoff in some functions to benefit other features; also, that updates are not always improvements. I'm confident this MKII will get great use as a colder-weather base layer around town, but would encourage interested parties to look at one of the more protective options in the line (Urbane Pro, Honister, etc.) for the sake of utility, or find a better deal on a MKI if you can still find it in your size. Hindsight: that would've been my choice.
