My wife was looking for a jacket that would be at once fully armoured, insulated for cooler weather, water resistant, and, most important, stylish. We looked at every possible option including some very near misses with Aether, Revit, Dainese, and Roland Sands. Disappointingly, either the sizing was off (the smallest was still too roomy) or the styling was not right. As an owner of numerous Belstaff jackets, armoured and otherwise, I knew that the Hairpin would be a great purchase but only if the fit was right. It was Andrew’s accurate description of the sizing parameters of the Hairpin jacket that convinced me that the women’s 38 would be correct. And he was spot on. The jacket is practically tailored in fit. It is an Italian cut and I would say it fits like a womans XS slim garment. (For the record my wife is 5’8” and 118lbs). From a quality perspective, the jacket is untouchable: A marvellously stout waxed cotton with poppers that sound rich when they snap and zippers that glide open and closed. Everything about the jacket screams “top shelf” while being simultaneously understated and completely evocative of the golden era of the ton’up boys and cafe racers. Take out the armour and the jacket is most assuredly a perfect fashion piece that can bridge styles and seasons. Although some people complain about the price of Belstaff jackets, I feel that the product reflects the cost. All in all, you’re paying a premium for a premium garment that will last a very long time.
