I liked the look of this in the photos and thought it would be a nice alternative as rain gear over my normal jacket. The reality was disappointing. Firstly the whole thing reeks of kerosene or whatever it's soaked in to make it more flammable in the event of a crash. Don't stand next to anyone smoking in this or you'll go up like the Hindenburg. Secondly I think you'd have to be 300 kg and built like a mountain troll to suit this thing. I tried pulling it on over my jacket and began to panic as I realised I was trapped inside a kerosene soaked straight-jacket with no way out. I had to thrash about desperately to free myself and realised immediately this was not the easy solution to whip out on a ride when the rain starts. More like something from a horror movie that the killer would wear, or the sack you'd be left in after being chopped to bits. There is absolutely no way this could ever be worn by anyone over a leather jacket. Not even Houdini would be able to get out of this once entombed inside it. The only way I can see this working is if it's worn over a sweater as a normal jacket, by a giant. I'm 5'10", 40" chest and 78kg and it fitted me like a boat tarpaulin in the size Medium. I think if you're 6'2" and 90+kg it might work in that size. The positive reviews written by people who like the way it looks must be absolute behemoths, on the run from mad scientists, pursued by angry villagers, or else painfully mistaken. Under way on a bike, an acre of petrol-soaked canvas would catch the wind like a clipper under full sail. Here in Scotland in our wind you'd end up in Norway. On the plus side it seems well made, built to last 200 years and would double as a tent in the event of a breakdown, mechanical or mental. I've no idea how to score this item. For me it's like being asked to rate a clown suit, or monk's cassock as riding wear. Yet I can see if the thing fits you, you want to look like Scott of the Antarctic, and you've no sense of smell, go for it. I returned it thanks to UR's returns policy. Thank the Lord for that.

Fantastic bit of kit, quality is excellent and materials spot on. Not had a chance to use on the bike as it seems more suited to spring riding probably over a riding shirt?

Okay-but not for me. Fitting wise etc it was great and the quality was good. But it suited someone far younger and cooler than me.

I bought this two months ago; I've worn it once on a cool dry day, and I thought it was nice - comfy, good length, but the hood is way too small - if it's a raincoat it needs to drape over the face a little not stop at the hair line. I needed to take the dog out for a short walk in the rain - a good opportunity to test it. I was out for 20 minutes and it's soaked through on the shoulders and back; it's not even limited to where the seam is. I'm gutted, if I knew it was this awful I'd have sent it back, but now it's too late and i'm stuck with it. If it soaks through in 20 mins of decent rain (not even a downpour), then imagine how naff it will be on a bike.

Love this jacket. Worn it walking the dog in a torrential downpour and i was bone dry down to my knees. Not worn on the bike yet, but nice and roomy, but I think would be difficult to put on over a leather, due to the fact that you have to wriggle it over your head, as it is a smock/cagoule.
