“I remember a dear friend from my teen years - I am 71 years - who was a broad woman and was in her fourties or fifties in those days. Just about pre - tights. Tights rupture underneath because the gusset - if existing at all does not fit the groin because it is the wrong shape. This lady would not hear of wearing trousers and always wore stockings: she was after all the School Secretary. Without makeup she was always immaculate although they lived in a tied cottage without a proper bathroom. She used to wear girdles with plus size - something that modern women have no access to. In the matter of cheap clothing most women these days opt for convenience which is trousers and lose some of their grace because of it. The item bought was in an attempt to find a modern replacement for someone else of plus size but the experiment failed: even with two bra extenders the article was not big enough so if I can pursuade a charity shop to take a new item then that is where it will go else it will languish until the right person to wear it comes along. Sorry but that is Modern Life!”
