“Very dissapointed at the huge splits on all 3 lengths. The longest piece is the worst with split gaps of 5mm on both faces along the full length I appreciate timber splits but this in my opinion is excessive. Thicknessing roll marks are also apparent on the faces which again is a poor finish in my opinion.”

Hi Colin, We’re sorry to see that you’re disappointed with your order. We are a little surprised to receive a one-star review, as you haven’t contacted us regarding any concerns or sent us any photographs for us to assess. The beams you purchased are solid air-dried oak. Splits, cracks and checks are completely natural characteristics of air-dried timber and occur as the oak gradually releases moisture and internal stresses during the drying process. They can run along the grain and appear on more than one face of a beam, and their size and position will naturally vary from piece to piece. This is not generally considered a defect in air-dried oak and is part of the natural character of the product. We do explain on our website that cracks and splits should be expected when purchasing this type of timber. With regard to the marks you have mentioned, we would be more than happy to look into these for you, but unfortunately we cannot assess them without seeing the timber. Please do contact us directly with some photographs of all three beams and the areas you are concerned about. We will happily review them with our production team and advise further. Many thanks, Traditional Beams
