“Based on use with the Edifier M90 speakers.
I bought the Edifier T5s to add some extra low-end to my M90s and I'm really impressed with how well the two work together.
The T5s adds noticeably more depth and weight without overpowering the M90s. What I particularly like is how difficult it is to hear the subwoofer as a separate speaker. When it's set up correctly, the bass almost sounds as though it's coming directly from the M90s. It's like a ghost, you don't really notice the subwoofer itself.
I'm currently running the T5s at around a quarter volume, with the LPF set to around the 10 o'clock position and that's enough to make a significant difference.
One nice thing about using it with the M90s is the integration through the Edifier ConneX app. Low medium and high sub out level settings control the level being sent from the M90s to the subwoofer. You can then use the T5s's own volume and LPF controls on the back to fine-tune the final balance and get it to blend naturally with the M90s rather than simply adding as much bass as possible.
(IF YOU'RE USING THE T5S WITH THE M90S MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE THE M90S FIRMWARE THROUGH THE APP TO FIX THE LOW SUBWOOFER VOLUME YOU WILL OTHERWISE GET)
I also really like the shape of the T5s. It's not just a conventional box that needs a large footprint, so it's easier to find a home for it without taking up more floor space than necessary. The 0–180 phase switch is another useful feature here, particularly if you're limited with where you can place the sub. Being able to switch the phase can help the T5s blend better with the M90s depending on its position in the room.
For me, that's the biggest strength of the T5s. It doesn't try to dominate the M90s or make itself obvious. It simply fills in the low end they are missing and makes the whole system sound more complete.
Once you get the balance right, it genuinely sounds less like you've added a subwoofer and more like the M90s have somehow gained a much deeper bass response.
That's exactly what I wanted from it and honestly the overall sound is amazing.”
