While it's always important to learn your equipment and where it falters, having something like Reference where it corrects your equipments potential issues it can make your job way easier and you can focus more on the mix. “the plugin is very good! it definitely takes some time to get used to the new frequency response but it’s a good thing to know that you can rely on what you’re hearing - it’s a huge timesaver as well as i used to go back and forth between listening environments and tried to make the mix fit each of the systems.
one negative factor to me is that sometimes it seems to be difficult to hear distortion that a clipper makes for example. i find that i seem to drive distortion harder than i used to with this plugin on. oh, and the huge level difference when turning on the plugin is a bit unexpected everytime, but hey, mixing quietly is better for the mixdown and the ears, anyways!
