The stem is great! No need for a cable just plug in and go. I have one and configured dhcp on usb0 with static ip. Makes connecting every time a breeze. Makes on the go pi time easy.

This is a cool idea. Its small form factor is one plus point. However, the need of soldering will restrict is widespread usage. My own product Notixed ( that was a big success on kickstarter) was launched long back and does not need soldering. Vikas Shukla

Soldering and me aren't best friends, but this was attached in 5 minutes. This hardware extension makes using "P4wnP1" more simply. Maybe I should reference it in the project's README. Is there an option to order a case which doesn't need printing and leaves the LED visible ?

Got one of these on the day one they were released and then didn't do anything with it due to a shortage of Pi Zero's. Finally have a surplus now so I hooked it up (soldering was a 5 minute job). Chucked in an SD card and followed the instructions. After a short tea break while the SD card was flashed with the latest Raspbian, I followed the instructions above and Minutes later, everything was working perfectly! WINNING!

I saw the USB Stem a while back, and loved the idea of being able to bolt it to my Pi Zero and setup USB OTG mode to share my computer's internet connection, instead of having to fork out on additional adapters and WiFi dongles. Unfortunately, so did everybody else and they quickly sold out before I could get my hands on one. However, since Pimoroni increased their stock, I recently bought one and I'm very pleased with the result. Setup is pretty simple, but does require some soldering, which is a little tricky due to the very small contact points on the USB Stem, so the risk of overheating the board is quite high. Unfortunately, I managed to accidentally damage the Pi Zero my USB Stem was connected to, so I needed to remove it and attach it to a new one. Removing was simple, but resoldering the USB Stem to my new Pi Zero was not so. I managed to solder 3 out of the 4 contact points to the Pi Zero, but one just wouldn't connect properly (might also be down to my cheap and cheerful soldering iron), which resulted in the "USB Device Not Recognized" warning in Windows. It turns out that I applied a little too much heat to one connector. However, with a little ingenuity, I soldered a small piece of wire from the pad on the Pi to the small connector near the USB end on the Stem, and hey presto! 1 star deducted just because of the fiddliness, but isolated case I suspect!

Love it. A development platform on a stick! Some delicate soldering required, but a neat little product. Just wish they did a suitable case to enclose it afterwards.
