So I got my totemduino mini lab. Opened the box to find some of the wires missing plus the wire box has a hole in it. Checked the packaging but still nothing. Also, the manual is useless. So for a complete beginner it’s not something to purchase. Even online it took hrs of wading through junk to even remotely have a chance of getting somewhere. That’s why it has scored two stars. Their website is also useless. Not going to purchase anything from Lithuania again.

My son who is a Software developer wants to get into, and have more understanding of electronics. I, as an engineer who has built development tools for my use similar to this over the years, see the Mini Lab as an ideal introduction for him. We bought this as part of his Christmas present and will be buying the add ons for his birthday in January. The Mini Lab is ideal for hobbyists, students and developers alike.

Goes together well and is strong and stable when assesmbled. one of the struts gets in the way of the power lead but other than that well laid out.

Overall I think its a great bit of kit, while pro-typing it keeps everything together rather than having boards and wires over my desk everywhere. If you like building the stand is a small fun project to put together and is quite solid after being built. It was my first order from Pimoroni, I was seriously impressed how quick it turned up and they would certainly be my first port of call in the future for any maker supplies. The only downside I found was really on the Totem side, I think if they are supplying for the UK market they should consider having the multi purpose type power supply plugs (ie you can transform it to 2 or 3 pin) for the money, I want to be up and running out of the box, not "I now need to buy a plug adapter or source another powersupply". Overall though, a nice bit of kit.

Ideal stand / platform to get straight into developing your project. It also has useful and convenient side pods for control functions. Could do with a stepper motor side pod.

While the device looks good on paper, the build quality is appalling. I spent an hour figuring out why the I2C OLED screen didn't work until I realized the breadboard wires were shorting each other. To add insult to the injury, the documentation is scarce, referencing to a git repository that doesn't exist. An educational kit like this lives or dies by the documentation so in the current state I cannot recommend it. On the positive side, I'm very happy with the lego-like building blocks. They're fairly robust, and I would consider buying the building kit.
