“It was wonderfully easy to connect the Tiny FX into a model that already had third-party lights built into it. The use of the de facto standard (for LEGO model lighting) JST-SUR connectors meant that all I had to do was unplug the wires from the "old" expansion board, plug them into the Tiny FX and apply power: just the pre-programmed demo, ramping brightness up and down, made the model look better. With the ability to add more interesting sequences and trigger them from sensors this board really opens up the possibilities - and is affordable! Although that means I'll just end up adding lights to more and more builds...
The board actually feels quite big compared to LEGO plates, once you add on a bundle of wires, but it is small enough to hide away. With so many connectors on every edge it may seem tricky to hold it securely; I'm sure ideas will come up (e.g. if you are using the 5V connector you can butt bricks up to the USB and on the opposite edge, besides the audio connector) however there is also room on the bottom for a square of double-sided servo tape (if you can bear to cover up the Pimoroni logo) and then stick securely it to any flat surface (e.g. onto a tile piece and then click that wherever).
This has been one of the most immediately gratifying experiences after opening a Pimoroni parcel.”
“I've had to put in another order for connectors for this so I can actually plug in some LEDs. It is tiny, but I think it would be improved by making it slightly bigger and using more common connectors, or possibly adding pin holes on the PCB so that we could work around those hard-to-find JST-SUR connectors. And actually, one or two mounting holes would also be welcome...”
