“Very cool when you know what you're getting! These displays look beautiful, the one draw back is they take about 30 seconds to render a change, but that's what you get with color e-ink. The colors are great, the software is well-maintained, and they're fun for random projects. Great stuff.”
“I'm a fan of the original 5.7" Inky Frame as they make nice desktop photo frame gifts. I wrote some slideshow software for them. The 7.3" model sounded interesting mainly due to the larger size. It has a few other important characteristics: its aspect ratio is 16:9 rather than 4:3 and it has separate external memory (PSRAM) for the framebuffer - this contributes to JPEG decoding being a little slower (maybe 8-10 extra seconds?) but leaves much more free memory permitting complex programs / more library usage.
Pimoroni note an issue with the corners: "We've noticed that the corners can also sometimes can [sic] have a pink tinge when displaying full white." For the twenty images I put on one I didn't notice that effect at all.”
“Great Product! I just ordered my third Inky Frame 7.3.
I have so many ideas about what to do with it.
The design with the ultra-low power current consumption is amazing and the build quality is outstanding.
There is just one small thing that could be improved in software: please let users pre-dither images and just load finished images into psram.”
Ahoy Christoph - thanks for the nice feedback!
Have you spotted you can do `dither=False` on the `j.decode` line to turn off our dithering?Drop us a line at support@pimoroni.com if you need us to elaborate further!
“great product! is there any chance for a bigger one? :)
This product is great and I am designing a case for it, sadly my display is not attached perfectly straight to the pcb, its off on one side by like 0.25 mm. Nothing that can be fixed with some tolerance but just so you know. also I'd prefer 3mm mounting holes instead of 2mm or even a threaded hole, now i would have to attach nuts to the front case. just some suggestions. A svg drawing would also be nice :)”
