“I love all the projects I can do with the raspberry pi's and i'm continually amazed by all the advancements made by the Pimoroni team, the Phat Beat is one of these such advancemenys, I bought this along with the Pirate radio and the whole thing is great, if I could make one tiny ammendment it would be a small display of some sort to display the current radio station, maybe an incorporation of the Phat Beat and the Scroll Phat. However as it is the whole thing works great and is fun to code with.”
“This board was part of my Raspberry Pi Pirate Radio Kit. This is one of many components in the kit. Setup and assembly instructions are very good and thorough”
“Everything went well, most important step is the soldering and would recommend flux to anybody just to let the flow easier, both boards seem resistant to my iron even cranked up with full heat. The software setup w/VLC is good on the one script ran it took care of everything for me. Maybe for an advanced linux person this would take 30 minutes to complete but allow yourself 2-3 hours realistically”
“Something I discovered after getting this board is that you you can only drive speakers directly because of the way the MAX98357A works. You can't use the output to drive another amplifier, so my plan to use it as a DAC with my existing hi-fi needs a rethink.
I may cut the I2S traces and just use a different DAC and so I can still use the LED VU meter.”
