I had good fun tinkering with this and using the example code from the manual but the end result is disappointing. I'm using it to turn some Christmas lights on and off with a browser-based UI but the socket frequently switches itself back off when it has been switched on and sometimes fail to detect on and off signals altogether. It's right next to the pi (about 20 cm in between) and far from any other electrical equipment. At some point I might get round to trying the other socket that came in the set just to see if the first one is faulty but I paid for both and this is my experience so far.

I love these sockets! I've got one turning my espresso machine on to warm up in the morning, controlled by a Pi Zero W running Homebridge, so everything is automated with the iOS Home app.

This product is fantastic as a really easy way to start automating certain things within your home. The sockets are really easy to physically use, and have a physical button for non-automated switching which is great if your system is down. There can be some interference, but it's easy to plan your sockets around it once you get to know the system a bit. The supplied software is a little bit strange, as it relies on the user pressing the enter key, but it's not hard to understand if you know python a bit. It is very well explained with comments, too, so it shouldn't be too hard to write code for them in other languages. I have made a module for python to make the sockets easier to use in other programs, which I will publish a link to on the forums here in due course. Customer service was also extremely fast and helpful using the forums, and the order arrived swiftly.

I have been keeping an eye on these for a while as being able to remotely turn on/off sockets from anywhere would be quite useful, but I had other projects that were more pressing. However, since it's Christmas time, I have lights around the house that were just crying out for something like this. Getting these paired and up and running was a breeze. Simply pop the controller board onto your Raspberry Pi (it works on the Pi 2 by the way) then follow the instructions provided to pair your sockets. I have not had any issues with interference and I have also soldered an extension aerial onto the board (which took about a minute from start to finish) and now, thanks for a third party web UI, I can now turn on/off my Christmas lights from anywhere! Well worth ВЈ20!
