“The gap between the cooler metal and the cpu looked alarmingly wide, so I decided to check by putting a piece of plastic putty on the surface and measure the thickness after remount/dismount. The gap/distance between the cooler and the cpu is 0.6 mm mounted.
The thickness of the pads is 1.2 mm, so the pads will be compressed to 50% which seems alright, no problem. So I was wrong.
However, in and attack of wishful thinking I had hoped it would be possible to mount a hat device on the GPIO contact, but this was NOT possible, the cooler was too thick. On the other hand it was never specified that this should be possible so I cannot complain. As I am dependent of the Hifiberry Digi+Pro hat on my RP4 I had to put the cooler aside and just be sorry for the wrong buy.”
Ahoy Bengt!
You can use HATs with this case if you combine it with a couple of booster headers - https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/booster-header (you'll probably need two unless the bottom of your HAT is particularly low profile).
“ATTENTION: Out there are some heatthinks exactly with the same exterior aspect as this one with the 3 thermal contact points unaligned
with the target components.
THIS ONE, besides an outstanding performance, HAS THE CORRECT CONTACT POINTS, ALL ALIGNED WITH THE TARGET COMPONENTS.”
