“I've used these MOSFETs to drive a variety of higher voltage and power items such as solenoid valves and EL Wire drivers. They are simple to control from most microcontrollers needing just 2.5v to turn on. A low value series resistor to the gate is a good idea and I also put a 10K resistor to Gnd to hold the MOSFET off if the circuit is disconnected. They have a high rating for most things you'd want to drive and I've never had one overheat or break.
Watch out that the tab is connected to drain so you'll need an insulating kit if you want to mount several to the same heatsink.”
