“I managed to break this as I got it out of the box - the stand is made of bakelite (or something similar) and is very brittle. The bit that I broke glued back on with CA glue (superglue) and you really cannot tell.
The stand seems stable enough. I have two soldering irons - a cheap mains-powered soldering iron and a USB powered one (much lighter, so more potentiail for it whizzing off and trying to melt a hole in your leg) and they both seem to sit in the stand fairly well.
I'm not a fan of using a wet sponge as a tip cleaner (even though the sizzling noise is very satisfying) - get a brass wool tip cleaner instead (Pimoroni sell one as SH-1025 which almost fits perfectly).”
“Takes a bit of getting used to, but with a few minutes practice it gets easier to place iron into stand so that it is located correctly under metal clip.”
“The stand is perfect for my soldering iron.
Mine came with some small imperfections: a dent on the bottom right side, and small dents on the from feet. There are four auto adhesive slip-resistant feet, and they are squared, not round like the solid feet.”
