“You need one of these to use the Cube:Bit layers. The design is well thought out, it can accommodate any size layer, it supports many different 5V power supplies selected via jumpers and it has nice plastic feet to avoid scratching the surface it rests on.
It has a 3.3V regulator which can power a BBC micro:bit from the 5V supply. Some caution is required there as this appears to work in reverse too, if a BBC micro:bit is the only thing powered then it delivers about 2.5V to the LEDs and that could stress the micro:bit board's regulator. Always connect the Cube:Bit power first to avoid this.
See my review of the 4x4x4 layers for some links to Instructables articles with more demo code for the Cube:Bit.”
“Must have add-on for the 5x5x5 Cube:Bit. Allows for easy connection of a wide range of popular microcontrollers and SBCs including Pi, ESP32 and Circuit Playground Express.”
