The Challenger 7 Wide is Hoka's super-cushioned but lightweight trail running shoe, designed for roads, mountains and everything in between. Some elements in this 7th edition have been made from recycled plastic to support the planet. Broader lugs on the outsole are closely spaced to deliver you better grip. Also available in standard width.

I have previous version - Hoka Challenger 6. Ordered in same size and width, but there are limited colours available in wide fittings. Initial impression of fit was that it feels roomier in forefoot/toe area. Only use over trails so uneven tracks, loose gravel with small amount of pavements. Doesn't seem as responsive, even a bit clunky, but comfortable over the terrain. My old Challenger 7's have covered over 1100 mls - the uppers are as good as new but the soles are almost completely worn. The upper of the 7 doesn't look as durable and its missing the outer rubber rand on the toe box so will see it it wil be as durable in long term.

I have the Challenger 7 in size 13.5 Wide. I'm 6'5" and a bit over 16 stone and have always struggled to find running shoes that are big enough and don't compress to soon. These shoes are accurately sized with plenty of room for a wide forefoot and toes without being sloppy. It has excellent torsional stability with good strike absorption and the sole arrangement helps spring you forward. I use them on forrest tracks with a bit of metalled roadwork with not much loose mud. They aren't waterproof but the sole depth keeps me above the worst of the conditions I run in. Early days but I like this shoe a lot.
