The composite inserts serve two distinct purposes. The white insert is designed to break down encrusted dirt and expose the underlying details, while the black insert is intended for delicate cleaning of fine details without damaging the patina. Always use both inserts with care and attention to preserve the artefact's integrity. How to Use:To change inserts, hold the top of the pencil and carefully remove the existing composite insert from the pencil tip. Then, reinsert the desired composite insert back into the pencil tip while still holding the top.

The white composite insert is designed for removing hard, encrusted dirt—use with caution.

The black composite insert is ideal for cleaning finer dirt while preserving the patina.

Use light strokes at a slight angle. Begin with the white insert to assess how easily the encrustation can be removed. If the dirt comes off easily, switch to the black insert to minimise the risk of scratching the patina.
For optimal performance, keep the composite tips sharp and well-maintained. To re-sharpen, extend the insert about 10mm from the pencil tip and rub it on sandpaper to form a new point.
Note: Not suitable for use on silver, gold coins, or other precious metal artefacts.

I’ve never used one of the before, but it’s easy to use and works well.

Really impressed, this is going to make cleaning the crud from my coins an easier task, without ruining the patina. The composite is not like the fibre glass pencils I have tried before which leave nasty filaments which can get into your skin if you don't wear gloves. This product has two different grades of 'pencil', and like an actual sharpened pencil, the control is very precise. Highly recommended!
