Used mine mainly in Mexico, and buying pretty nice wooden handles here from the local hardware stores (Truper are the maker of the handles). If you find a shaft witha a plastic taper, these are best and slot straight in and cost about £6. As for the scoop, its heavy, very well made, and super durable, I've used mine on two 6 month trips, and used it almost every day, with no signs of it failing anywhere. The only improvement I can think of, are smaller holes on the very bottom, just to stop the small stuff falling out. But you learn to compensate for that I guess, just dump it out away from the waves. It can be a workout for a long day on the beach, but having a scoop break on you could ruin your whole trip, I would be very surprised if any of these ever get returned. If you're serious about beachwork, you need one of these. Very happy.

Broke after only being 9 months old and not being used with excessive force. Poor design with top section being a weak point. £123 wasted on this product.

I've uploaded an image so that customers can make their own mind up on this unfair review. 2mm stainless steel, laser cut, TIG welded, reinforced & triangulated. The picture clearly shows the top edges (normally straight) badly deformed, and the top rear stainless steel is torn downwards. We have tried to reproduce the forces required to achieve this type of damage and despite jumping up and down on an upturned basket we couldn't even get any flex let alone tearing of the metal. The manufacturer supplies a stainless steel handle for this scoop however on this occasion the customer was using a 2mm thickness alluminium tube of unknown length. ANY digging tool has a limit & warranties can only cover poor workmanship & welds, they do not however cover damage caused by excessive force.

Very pleased , quality bit of kit well made and strong , hence the weight, best of all because of the design you are not limited to the exact diameter of handle within reason because if you don't use the U clamps you can drill the handle of your choice and fit it with bolts through the holes provided in the back :-)

This is a serious bit of kit. I've used it twice since having it and beach detecting has changed all together. Those targets that are at the bottom of a wet trench which rapidly fills with wet sand are now retrievable. I bought the mid point grip and stainless steel shaft. It is not that heavy if carried over the shoulder. Solid scoop with high class welded joints in stainless steel. Best detecting purchase for a long time.
