“t then the motor just gave up and started to overheat regularly
I would say it’s good for beginners but don’t get it if you are trying to look for a good and reliable car”
“Bought this for my 5 yr old as he plays with my Tamiya Grasshopper. It's wild! I got my maths wrong I originally wanted something smaller or the same size as the grass hopper but got the size ratio messed up... Its pretty huge toy. As soon a she saw it i knew I couldn't swap it. He and I love it. Fast and fun. we'll see how robust it is as, as I'm sure its going to get an absolute hiding with him at the helm. Totally worth it! get the big battery though its thirsty”
“The Outlaw looks sharp and runs well. I’ve taken it on a handful of runs on different terrain and it’s handled it all well. It doesn’t feel the most rugged buggy out there, but at this price it’s fine; just don’t go bashing it around too enthusiastically. The overall acceleration and top speed are enough to put a smile on your face, as expected, albeit possibly a little tame for the more experienced RC enthusiast, (so maybe better for those new to the hobby or for youngsters). The main downsides are NiMh batteries take an age to charge and don’t last that long, e.g. the stock 1800mah battery takes a couple of hours or thereabouts to charge, and will run for 5mins or so, (lots of people online/ YouTube found the same). Although, purchase a higher capacity battery, e.g. 5000mah, and you should get a half decent run out of it. The other gripe is the remote that requires 8AA batteries! (Which aren’t included in the box), and which feels a tiny bit plasticky.
Overall I’m pleased with it. I wanted a relatively cheap biggie that was fun and this certainly fits the bill. Upon reflection I might suggest others consider the more expensive brushless version. Although it costs more, it appears to run more briskly and is compatible with LiPo batteries which give more kick and last a lot longer.”
“Bought this for a 7 year old didn’t realise it’s 14 plus.
I understand *why now, however he has learnt to control it. Some parts have broken already, bumper snapped, one front shock is bent and a rear shock came undone so lost all its oil......however, with the parts being affordable I quite like the fix and play routine this presents. It’s also helped get the boy outside to play setting up courses and jumps etc.
So a good item, very pleased. We bought the battery bundle which I’m also pleased about as the 1800 it comes with doesn’t last very long so it’s nice to have two batteries with two chargers etc.
*Definitely needs adult supervision due to the battery charging and handling, the speed of the wheels (could trap and hurt fingers easily when carrying etc) and the speed of the car in general.
Only gets 4 stars as the controller doesn’t allow us to reduce or control the speed through a setting, so we have zip tied a block to the handle to reduce the distance the trigger can travel while he gets used to it.
I may even buy my own now :)”
“Very fast delivery fron rcgeeks. I bought from them as they has a good range an well organized car chooser guide that wasn't just a cut and paste of the manufacturer's website.
The FTX Outlaw fitted our spec of something that was good value, spare parts available and off road. It is capable of going over rough terrain and eat up everything we drove over. However after continuous us over our rough garden with long grass and mud piles it got very hot. To the point where motor was smoking and a finger buning heat sink. I had set the controller to crawler setting which applies power when slowing or stopped to prevent rolling back on slopes so I think this also adds to the motor heat up. On a less rigorous surface it stayed relatively cool. The motor controller also cuts out on heavy starting load so a gentle start is needed. This was only really an issue in the long grass, muddy area of our garden.
Overall this is a great car, me and my 9 yr old are having tons of fun and I expect we will soon be doing the many mod that can be done.”
